Mastering the Art of the Coaching Hand Style of Driving

Traditional Coaching Hand competitions celebrate the golden age of coaching, when elegantly appointed road coaches carried passengers across the countryside. Today's competitors preserve these traditions with meticulous attention to historical detail.

Judges evaluate the overall presentation including the condition and authenticity of the vehicle, the quality of the horses and their harness, the coachman's attire, and most importantly, the skill and style of driving.

Four-in-hand driving requires years of dedicated practice to master the coordination of four horses through subtle movements of the reins, known as "handling the ribbons."
